Maternity care: Women’s Voices, Art and Science – Artist Call
Dr Lucy Green, University of Southampton, is looking for local artists to join an exciting project that brings together art, science, and community voices. Creative Conceptions, led by the University of Southampton, focuses on the experiences of women of Black and South Asian background before and during pregnancy. Working alongside researchers, care providers, and art educators, these women are shaping conversations about pregnancy, health, and identity—and we want artists to help bring these stories to life.
The project will culminate in a co-created workshop at the British Science Festival in Southampton (September 2026), hosted within the inspiring Art of Creation exhibition—a Canadian art-science touring showcase. Through creative dialogue, they aim to connect culturally rooted approaches to pregnancy planning and pregnancy care with science and policymaking, sparking conversations about early development and parental health.
They're inviting expressions of interest from artists who would like to collaborate on this journey. The commissioned artist will lead three community workshops and co-create a Festival workshop, supported by our team and local women. Fees and materials are covered.
