Star Stories: Living Well Partnership – Bitterne Park Surgery Reception Team

The reception team at Living Well Partnership – Bitterne Park Surgery has been recognised in our latest batch of Stars for Stars awards, celebrating individuals and organisations that create kinder, more mentally supportive environments across the city.

This well-deserved recognition reflects what many patients already know: the receptionists at Living Well Partnership – Bitterne Park Surgery consistently go above and beyond in their roles.

Paula Front Desk Team Leader says: “The reception team at Living Well Partnership - Bitterne Park Surgery are really proud to be nominated for a Star for Stars. Our front desk teams are often the first point of contact for patients, and we know that a kind word, patience and taking the time to listen can make a real difference – especially to someone who might be struggling.

“Supporting patients’ wellbeing is part of every interaction we have, and this recognition means a lot to the whole team. It reflects the care, compassion and teamwork our staff show every day.”

Kind, patient & efficient

Described by the nominator as exceptionally kind, patient and efficient, the team is praised for offering calm reassurance, particularly to patients experiencing anxiety.

They take the time to listen, allowing individuals the space to explain their needs without judgement, helping to reduce stress at what can often be a difficult moment.

Powerful example

One powerful example highlighted in the nomination involved a homeless gentleman experiencing a mental health crisis. Rather than treating the situation as an inconvenience, the reception team responded with compassion and dignity.

They provided him with a hot drink, offered a safe and welcoming space, and ensured he received clear information about where to access further mental health support. This act of kindness exemplifies the values the Stars for Stars initiative aims to recognise.

Meaningful difference

Our Stars for Stars scheme acknowledges those whose everyday actions make a meaningful difference to mental wellbeing in the community. Being named a ‘star’ reflects sustained commitment, not a single moment, and Living Well Partnership – Bitterne Park Surgery reception team embodies this consistently.

Living Well Partnership – Bitterne Park Surgery is proud of its receptionists, whose professionalism, empathy and dedication ensure patients feel heard, respected and supported from the moment they walk through the door.

Mental health-friendly environments

Their recognition as ‘Southampton Stars’ is a testament to the vital role reception teams can play in creating truly mental health-friendly healthcare environments.

Congratulations to the Living Well Partnership – Bitterne Park Surgery reception team – outstanding stars of compassionate care.
