Star Stories: Round About Café, Mansbridge

The Round About Café in Mansbridge has been named as one of our recent Network’s Stars for Stars award recipients in recognition of its exceptional commitment to fostering wellbeing, belonging and positive community connection.

This much‑loved café has become a cornerstone of community life in Mansbridge and the award highlights the invaluable role it plays in supporting mental health across the area.

Inclusive & welcoming

The café was commended for being an inclusive, welcoming community space, where staff and volunteers work together to create an environment in which everyone feels they belong.

The ethos of the Round About Café centres on community, compassion and connection – values reflected not only in its day‑to‑day running but also in the many activities and support networks it hosts.

Sense of safety

The nomination submitted to us emphasised just how meaningful the café is to those who visit. Several customers described it as a friendly and comforting place, praising the warm atmosphere and the sense of safety it offers.

The nominator highlighted how the café provides a vital social space for people living alone, helping them build friendships and feel part of something bigger. Others noted that the reasonable prices, great coffee and welcoming volunteers make it a much‑valued community asset.

Reduce isolation

Beyond its daily café service, the Round About Café also hosts a wide range of activities, from craft sessions to music groups, helping reduce isolation and encourage creativity.

When the café closes, the space continues to serve the community through projects and group sessions that bring people together. Its Community Pantry was especially praised for supporting residents by providing affordable food and easing financial pressures, while boosting wellbeing.
