Star Stories: Southampton Central Library

Southampton Central Library has been named as one of the recipients in our latest round of Stars for Stars awards for its commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive environment.

As one of the city’s key public spaces, the library plays an important role in promoting wellbeing, connection and access to knowledge – values that align closely with the ethos of our awards initiative.

Demonstrating kindness

It’s among a handful of organisations celebrated by us this quarter for fostering positive experiences and demonstrating kindness towards those who may be facing mental health challenges.

The award acknowledges the ways in which libraries, like this one, contribute to mental wellbeing, offering safe spaces where people can learn, relax, connect with others and feel part of the community.

Highly valued

The library’s anonymous nomination emphasised just how highly valued it is. The nominator highlighted it as a place worth recognising for its supportive approach, noting its positive contribution to visitors’ wellbeing.

Public libraries often serve as essential community anchors and this nomination reflects the important, sometimes understated, role the library plays in offering comfort, stability and kindness to its users.

Champion inclusion

As part of Southampton’s wider library network, the Central Library is known for its welcoming atmosphere, accessible resources and broad range of services for residents of all ages.

Whether providing spaces for reading and reflection, access to information and technology, or opportunities for social connection through events and activities, the library continues to champion inclusion and community wellbeing.

Our Stars for Stars award serves as meaningful recognition of the team’s dedication to making the library a supportive, mental health friendly space for all.
